What exactly is paste stones?

I was reading a book on jewelry today and it has a lot of pictures with very brief descriptions. The writer kept referring to the stones as "paste". What does that mean, please? I thought paste was the flat looking rhinestones you see on some of the vintage pieces. These were all different colors, sizes, and types. Some were plastic and some were glass. Carol

Sterling dress clip - help point me in the right direction

I have this beautiful dress clip and have searched all kinds of places trying to date it and find the design patent. Before I pull the rest of my hair out, could someone please point me in the right direction? The utility clip patent #1801128 is dated 4/14/1931, and the back is marked STERLING. I thought I read somewhere that Sterling was popular in the late 1930's and pre-WWII. So, any idea which companies used sterling, or are their too many to search for maker's patents? Does anyone know which designers used the utility patent so that I can search their design patents? Any other way I should search? All photos are clickable to enlarge. Thank you! Nancy When life throws you worms, go fishing!

Two more from the tub... MOP? and Tree Swing

These two are also from the tub... the MOP, sadly, is obviously broken on one side. It's about 2" round. The other is about 2" high by 1" wide at the widest point. I am considering finding a way to bezel set the MOP and perhaps make it into a pendat/necklace if it has no value as is. All comments appreciated. J.J. SnooksCorner1930 LOVIN' the SPARKLES!!!

OT I'm going nuts need some info if you have it

I registered a domain name through go daddy and started setting up a new store through auctvia commerce, went through all the steps (even printed them out) to direct my domain name to the commerce store but for days now I have been fighting it and it keeps sending it to the stupid auctvia store with my ebay auctions listed not commerce one!! I have contacted customer support and I think they just have script boxes to check for replys... Can anyone suggest a different place to set up my store? I need it to be very easy ( don't know html) and fairly inexpensive to start out I don't want to go into the hole any deeper than I am already. LOL when I do a google search I always see Morning Glory pop up everywhere (I love that store!!!) and several of the others and have always wondered where they have gone through. How to explain this repair better.

Got an email about this bracelet I sold. Link This bracelet is nice, however, the clasp will not stay closed. I cannot even wear it. It simply falls off with the slightest movement. It is the usual tongue and box clasp. I wrote a response but I want to be sure it explains the fix clearly. I have several bracelets with the same clasp and sometimes it just gets compressed too much. If you take something thin and carefully open up the tongue end it usually gives it enough tension to hold tight. __________________ Whatcha doin'?

4 pc Estate Vermeil (?) with carved beads.

Let's start with the fact that I know nearly nothing about jewelry...except what I like! I picked up four matching pieces of estate jewelry today; hinged bracelet, screw back earrings and 'clip'. I'm back, what would you call these necklaces?

Can anyone help with the terminology I would use for these two necklaces, and do you know what kind of glass they are? I'm assuming they are glass. I know the amber/topaz colored one is older than the blue one... but both came from the same person. They were found in a house my neighbor's son bought. What are these beads made of?

I got this necklace in a lot quite awhile ago. I thought it was bakelite from the pictures in the auction. I broke the necklace right away of course. Anyway the big bead is bakelite, I just don't know what the small beads are made of. Maybe they are just plastic. They don't smell, no reaction to simichrome. I put a drop of acetone on one, and there was no tackyness, it didn't affect it at all. There is no mold marks, they are quite light. Lighter than bakelite beads of the same size. They turn yellow under a fluorescent light. Some of the beads have a small amount of crazing on the ends. (the fluorescent picture is crappy, my camera would not focus too well in the dark). Those weird blue marks are some kind of reflection. It has a barrel clasp, and all of the other beads and little round things are metal of some type. Anybody have any ideas? I didn't heat them at all, with a pin or hot water, in case they are celluloid. I am going to try to re-string it, what kind of thread should I use? Thanks for any help at all! Kelly

My 17 yr old son has the flu, probably Swine...

...but apparently they don't test every suspected case unless they are high risk. There's been a few confirmed cases in the schools here in town and they have been refusing to shut down the schools for cleaning and hopefully breaking the cycle. He started with cough and runny nose on Thursday, got up Friday with a fever of 102.4, vomiting, headache, cough, runny nose and very gray looking. Took him to the Dr. right away and he suspects H1N1. My son has asthma so he's been put on heavy duty antibiotics, prednisone, his nebulizer, etc and to call if he gets worse. His lungs are pretty congested. He seems better this evening but he's still got a low grade fever and cough. I'll be calling the school on Monday to let them know. He got sick quickly, but it's not any more deadly than the seasonal flu, just have to watch for complications. Just venting.

Enamel or Painted? What is the metal on this old pin?

Hi - I have a question please. I was going to list this pin and thought it was hand-painted. When I got to looking at it I think it's enameled on (see metal ring surrounding front) Or maybe hand-painted then enameled? And the back is very rough. I see where it's had soldering, but I tried cleaning w/a silver cloth and that front edge of the pin has quite a bit of tarnish come off, but not so much the back of the pin. I guess it could be a lesser grade silver? what ki And the enamel part isn't a perfect finished circle, it looks cut out. Maybe it was a "kit"someone got for Christmas?

I never wear it, and need some extra money, so I'm trying to see if anyone can tell me anything about it. I've posted pictures at the link below, and will provide here all the information I can. Link The stones look to be glass or something similar, though I really can't tell; the central component measures roughly an inch and a half wide and long, and each of the smaller components on either side measures about 5/8". The larger stones rest in prong settings, and the smaller stones appear to be glued. I can't say what the metal is, though it might be silver, and from looking at the back, the settings appear to have been hand-welded together to form the central component; it's too irregular to be machine work. The chain and catch are strong, and the whole thing is in really beautiful shape. There are no maker's marks or signatures. Any information that anyone can give me would be most appreciated; even if this only looks like something that you saw once, that would get me started. Would appreciate help with pearl necklace and amythyst pieces

Good morning - My daughter just received these pieces from her Great Aunt June. I know absolutely nothing about jewelry and tried to research with her last night, but still could not identify value of these pieces. The images are scanned and not the best. Hopefully there's enough there. This piece is about 18" long. The clasp says '10k' which I assume is 10 karat white gold. I did the tooth test and believe these are real pearls. The scanner did not pick up the slight cream color to them. Here is the backside of the clasp. The top has a pearl glued to it. Here are three amethyst pieces. I believe the stones come from Brazil (where I understand lots of amethysts come from) and that they were set here in the US. The ring says '14k' on the inner side, which I understand means 14 karat gold. I assume the other settings are the same. From what we learned last night, I understand stones are more valuable with clarity in the stone. The ring stone has some cloudiness and what appears to be a dark purple plain - like a deposit I guess? The smaller stones don't appear to have defects, however it's hard to tell as the settings are in the way. I'm thinking with these the gold might be worth way more than the stones, but of course I have no idea. I don't expect they're worth too much, but would appreciate anyone's thoughts as to their value. Thanks so much. Patty _____________________________________________________________________

Don't Need an ID, just some opinions

Found this pristine Vendome Necklace today. It is a single strand, but the larger beads are actually four sections strung around to make the bead. Interesting. The opinions I am seeking are: Would you sell alone, or try to find mates to make a set?

Help! It looks like Peacock eye but its Blue and Red not green!

I have this brooch that looks like peacock eye but it's red where the green normally is. It is actually not glass but a very heavy thick coat of clear enamel over the foil like peacock eye. The enamel is so thick it looks like glass. What would I call this and what do you think the age is? Do you think this was done by an artisan? I could still call it an evil eye and reference the similarity to peacock eye in the description can't I? Jeez! I'm full of questions aren't I? It's a copper base like a Renoir enamel piece would be with black enamel on the back side.

New

I just got these. Pd $10 for the Florenza, was that an ok price? I thought it was very pretty. Couldn't find so not sure how old. Then this necklace with the side catch and 2 shades of silver beads isn't marked but I think it may sell ok. I have to clean some greenies off, but the finish on the beads is really in great shape. Also pr. of shoe buckles (whatever you call these) The gold foil is still in good shape. They're marked "Tip Toe" pat# 0212207 Last but not least, what do you think of this? What would I call it. Not marked and not sure how old. It's like a necktie almost. I'd appreciate anyone's opinions.

Question about new Jewelry Policy

If I am reading it right, it is contradicting itself. In order to list in Fine Jewelry it has to be solid precious metal, OK. But it also states that it can't be PLATED. What if it is .925 sterling silver plated with 10kt gold? I do not sell plated jewelry but am just wondering because it seems to me that the policy could go either way. What do ya'll think?

What type of brooch is this with slanted pin? Sparkly! TIA

It measures approx. 1 inch in diameter and approx. 2.50 inches in length, if measured down to the lowest rhinestone. Is this part of a scatter pin set? If pinned with the pin straight across, the dangling rhinestones are on a slant, and fall like a rhinestone waterfall effect, for lack of any other description. Thank You. It is unsigned. The rhinestones are very sparkly and clear and I think it's rhodium.

Another good jewelry auction in Michigan

Another good auction with lots of costume jewelry just out my back door. Mr. and Mrs. Fabiano had a huge candy store in Lansing for years. Both of them passed recently and the estate auction is Thursday. I'm going to have Sherry pull me in a wagon. I think I can get the sympathy card played and get up close while she does the bidding. Two necklaces from an estate sale (kinda)

Yesterday I found a nice variety of jools at an estate sale - a Sarah Cov set, Judy Lee earrings, Crown Trifari choker - then these two. I wish I had gone the first day, when that cardboard treasure chest was likely full! Apparently Grandma passed away, she was in her 90's. Can anyone help with these? Much appreciated! First I believe that this strand is real pearls. The tooth test is gritty, but of course I cannot tell if they are cultured or natural. They are a taupe or deep ivory color. Do pearls turn dark over time? Handknotted and the string is almost brown with age. The clasp has a marking 10K, then a symbol. I am hoping someone can help with the symbol. At first I thought it was a G, but on closer inspection realize it is not. Second piece, I thought was glass at first. The 35" necklace has matte black beads, handknotted, with rhinestone rondelle (is that the correct term?) spacers. The thing that threw me is that they have dimples, or flat spots on many of them. Anybody know what these may be? -- Nancy When life throws you worms, go fishing!

Real or fake Lapis Lazuli

Good afternoon all, Real or fake, I know Lapis Lazuli is one of the most imitated gem stones. I need your opinions on this carved elephant. I believe it has all of the characteristics of quality Lapis Lazuli, the color of the elephant is very accurate (on my monitor). I was told to try rubbing a spot with acetone to see if any color came off, not crazy about that idea, not sure what kind of affect the acetone would have , so I gave the piece a good bath with hot water and no color came off. Need help with a necklace please... (lots of pics)

I found this interesting necklace last weekend while visiting my folks. It's not something I normally would grab, but it just about jumped into my hands! LOL! I really love it, but have no idea quite what I've got. . Not sure if it is even really older. The construction looks older, but some of the components look newer. It does have a little damage and needs cleaning, but I'm not sure how best to clean it. The purple "stones" are plastic. The cherups are "riveted" on, rather than glued. But the "pearls" and rhinestones are glued. It does have a mark on the clasp, but so far I haven't been able to track it down. And, I'm thinking that possibly the chain was added recently. It also has that interesting green, purple, white color scheme that was discussed a while back from the sufragette days or something along those lines. Very strange Coro pendant

I don't have photos right now but let me ask yall if you've heard of such a thing as this. It's a Coro piece, not especially attractive, maybe about 2 inches across, round. Riveted center of what looks like maybe enamel. Words in French Ordre Royal De L'Etoile D'Anjouan Comores. There's also some gold colored scripted words in French on the enamel that I can't make out. Now, here's my question. Was Coro ever commissioned to make medals or were they just gutsy enough to go about doing it willy nilly? LOL!-- ~Anything you can do I can do... kinda.~

Not jewelry, buttons--but I need some advice!

I found an old (probably 60's or 70's) handmade tapestry bag that is quite honestly not very pretty. It has weird straps no one on the vintage board had a clue what they were for, and it also has a stain--BUT it has four gorgeous confetti lucite buttons--which is why I bought it in the first place. I have not been able to capture what buttons look like in photo--they have gold glitter and what looks like tiny shards of abalone shell--lots of flashes of green, blue and pink. My question is, do you think I should just cut off the buttons and try to sell them alone, or should I leave it intact and sell it as a purse? What category would you put it in? I cannot show close ups of all four buttons together unless I cut them off--and even then, I am having a heck of a time photographing them, they are so much prettier than the photo. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

This Coming Attractions / Share Your Wares Thread will run from Sunday to Sunday. The rules are: 1. No more than two pieces per post and no more than three posts per week. (That way we are not jamming up the board and it puts everyone on the same page.) For a total of three posts per week and a show of six items - so choose wisely. 2. No long drawn out descriptions. If the piece is signed, just simply name the maker, or unsigned, or gold or silver. Keeping It Simple. 3. Pictures should be no bigger than 640 X 480 so the board isn't broken. Remember this is your opportunity to show fellow collectors what you will be listing this week. Hope everyone has a great week! Strut your stuff! --Sandy The above post is based on my opinion. I'm learning however, tons from you guys on this board I have this pretty set, necklace and earings that I want to list, but I'm not sure what the description of the technique on the necklace part should be. I have looked everywhere for a marking or anything to indicate a maker and it appears to be unsigned. It seems to be rather well made and is missing just a couple of the stones on the chain part. Link Link Link Link Bought it for 50 cents in a yard sale and my daughter wore it one time as Prom Queen LOL

How can I fix the tension on this Trifari Earring

I have a pair of Trifari earrings which I love dearly - I believe they have spring clips - the part that holds the earrings to your ear is floppy. How can I tighten it? It was too tight so I found some information on a website to loose the clip and now it falls off. I pushed a fingernail file under the middle bar with disasterous results. Wah! The clip is the same as on these earrings - item # 300338909210.

Silver charms

It has been my understanding when you state something as silver, it should have a silver content of 925. I bought 3 charms from a seller who stated they were silver and they are a silver alloy with a low silver content. Shouldn't the seller state this in their auction? Thank you for any input

ID Help On Old Necklace

Hello! Tannerman's Trading here again, looking for some possible ID help. A client of ours brought in this old necklace and clip on earring set, stating that it belonged to his mother. He personally dated it somewhere between 1920 and 1940, but he wasn't sure. We couldn't find any markings on it, but we're getting used to that these days. lol The tubular beads are metal, and the other beads seem too light weight to be crystal, but here again, we're not the experts. Does this set look familiar to anyone here? We appreciate your help with this very much! PS..please forgive our background in the pics...we were taking pictures of bulk coins yesterday, and haven't changed the background paper yet. --tannermans_trading_co

Hig End Parure - keep together even if all pieces aren't perfect? split?

I'm pondering this because I have a specific set in mind (my rescue Juliana set), but won't bother to post a photo because it's really a general question and probably not a unique situation. Situation - have a gorgeous parure (bracelet, earrings, brooch) that is in perfect condition on the front, but the brooch and earrings have had their working parts replaced. The bracelet is in original condition. Should I keep all pieces together, or list the bracelet separately, and the repaired brooch and earrings together? I've decided to wait until at least late September to list these so have some time ... but I keep going back and forth on this grouping thing. Any thoughts?

Orignal From: Hig End Parure - keep together even if all pieces aren't perfect? split?

I'm sure you guys are all sick of this topic, but I just had to vent to people who understand. Fine, I learned the hard way not to buy stuff from most sellers in China ( I did find one or two that are very honest and terrific, not bashing here). So I bought what were supposedly fabulous faceted smoky quartz twist beads (from the US) at a decent price (not .99) and ended up with plastic cubes. I looked too late at the seller's feedback, and now I'm just so dissapointed. I will go through the whole rigamarole, have already contacted the seller who told me the beads were not plastic even though I had the pieces of dreck in my hands and know damn well they are. So what if I leave a negative feedback? They sell thousands of pieces of junk and ebay won't do a thing to them. And to top it all of, they get a discount to peddle their unending supply of junk. I don't think I'm being unreasonable, the shape is less at issue than the fact that they are plastic, that is blatant!! So, what do you folks think? Thanks for listening to my rant.

Need help with a couple pieces..brass, etc.

Hey I am selling jewelry for an antique store that is closing in town and I am stuck on a couple pieces. The owner is giving me several cases at a time to work with and kinda letting me determine the prices (not much was already priced). I asked him if there was anything he would be upset if it sold cheap and the only thing he picked out was this necklace which he wants roughly $40 for. He said it was old and copper but I'm thinkin he meant brass right? Or could that be copper? Anyway, how old do you think it is? I've never seen anything like this in person before. Any other info that might be helpful? Secondly, can you tell me anything about this brooch? What is that neat stone? I thought for sure this one would have a C clasp but it has the rollover kind. Any idea on the age? Thanks so much for your help! ---------------- Courtney

Help with Old Cameo Dating and Such! TIA

I know nothing about identifying/dating cameos. I've tested the metal and it is not gold or sterling. The cameo itself is shell. The pin closure is a C-clasp. It measures 2 inches tall and 1 1/2 inches wide. I would like to approximately date it, find out who exactly the figures are on it and somehow put a good starting bid price on it. The range for dates and prices on cameos is huge! I would like it to sell since cameos aren't really my bag baby! Thanks so Much!--... My name is Lisa and I'm a joolaholic.

What is wrong with this Hobe' necklace?

Hello All! Picked this up today. Each end connector is signed Hobe'. But the black bead caps do not fit the beads and do not stay in place. Do you think it was made this way? Can it be fixed? Do you think I could get $20 for this?

This was listed as sterling but when I got it I could tell right away it wasn't even silver, it's alpaca. When I checked the mark it only said Mexico. Mexico requires silver to be marked but the pic of the back wasn't very clear and I never even questioned it since it stated sterling in the title, item specifics and description. I could return it but no seller I have returned a misrepresented item to has given me return shipping for their mistake so I don't want to be out a few dollars for nothing, again. It's impressive at almost 3" and the stone is 1" so it might sell but I don't need another piece just sitting in my store. I paid $20 for it so I'd like to get at least that back for it. Whatcha think? --__________________ Whatcha doin'?

Another question about an older pin clasp

First, I need to whine a little bit... I can't find ANY of my old threads! I tried to look up a couple of them ( like the other one with an old clasp) and can't find any of them. I tried searching other threads I participated in... most are missing. I also wanted to find the name of the other designer that worked in copper similar to Matisse REnoir. ugh! Anyway, I think this leaf is MOP and I think the pearls are real. The clasp is older

Bakelite? Opinions appreciated!

I did both the simichrome and scrubbing bubbles test on this pin, and "seemed" to get a positive result (yellow stains on the q-tip). Opinions? If it does look like Bakelite, what color is this called? If it doesn't look like Bakelite, what would it most likely be? Thanks in advance.

IMPORTANT info for my joolie buddies IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know about you, but I'M NOT WILLING TO SHARE MY PHOTOS! I take great pride in 99% of the photos I take. I'm not willing to allow them to be snagged at will. Please read below (hope I don't get slapped for this): "Starting on August 31st, eBay is going to institute a new policy where photos you upload to any listing are put into a "catalog" of online images that any eBay user can then use for their own listings. The default setting for this is opt-in, which is a problem if you, like me, consider your photographs your property and want to control how they are used and by whom. A copyright notice is posted with a link to your user profile, but no additional information is given, and the link is quite small. Since the default setting is opt-in, and eBay has not sent messages out about this, a lot of people are going to be caught flat-footed by this new policy." Question about shipping

I have a buyer from France that wants to BIN on a pricier piece and is asking about shipping price. I have not shipped to France before but I have been shipping all over the world (even Italy), especially lately without any problems. Usually 1st Class International. However, most are less expensive items. The thing that bothers me is that the person's FB is private. And I have heard some bad stories about shipping to France but then I did about Italy too and so far so good. I thought I heard that Priority offered insurance but when I checked the USPS website it said it does not apply to Small flate rate or Flat rate envelopes. What is the best, most economical way to ship with Insurance or some sort of protection? The USPS site was confusing on that issue. I use Auctiva but have never used them for insurance. Is that a good option? Any others? Any guidance will be most appreciated.

Is this a grand parure or a reg parure?

My daughter can't pay her rent, I can't afford to either, so I thought I would sell a set I have and give them the money. It probably cost me close to 500.00 to and 2 years to get all the pieces, I bought them one piece at a time. There is a necklace, bracelet, earrings, and two brooches. Would this be a parure, or could I call it a grand parure? I have shown it here before with other questions. It is stamped Mexico, Sterling, and Parisina. I know it was made by Boucher in the the 30's or 40's, and the pieces aren't all that common. I am going to put a reserve on it, for what I paid for the pieces, which in these times might be too much, but I am not going to give it away. I don't have any luck on ebay, everything I have sold sells for pretty much opening bid. Any ideas for a good title? "Vintage Sterling, Parisina, Marcel Boucher, Grand Parure" Would this be keyword spamming? All of the above are true (except maybe the grand parure). Any help would be appreciated, thanks, Kelly

Cini cross- vintage or repro?

Picked this up today- a Cini sterling cross w. cherubs. Is there any way to tell if this is an older piece, or one of the modern recasts? (This design is offered on the Cini site). It's marked CINI and Sterling on one side. On the other there's an odd mark "35" or possibly ".35". Not sure if it's a truncated 935 mark, or something else (you can just see it in the pic, at the bottom tip). Anyone have an ideas?

Giovanni Zodiac necklace- anyone seen me before?

So I found this necklace a while back, and I really like it. But the acrylic facing came off, and the glue I used to put it back on left the icky bubblyness you see. I'm hoping to find another one, but I've never seen one on ebay, no matter how many times I've searched. It's signed Giovanni on the back, w/ the dates Aug 24- Sept 22, so I guess it's a zodiac piece. The only Giovanni pieces it seems I ever see is that darn rose (thousands and thousands of that rose....). Anyone see one of these before? Or even better, has one they'd put up for sale? TIA!

Problems getting item back from wrong buyer

Well - I need a bit of advice I think. The last week in July my son switched the paypal labels on two packages. One lady bought a chalkware bunny and the other one, a bunch of old Japanese toys. When I found out I apologized profusely and refunded each one more than enough from paypal to cover postage to return it to me, or forward on. The lady who got the bunny sent it right back to me and I mailed it out priority (she paid for parcel post) to the correct person. Well - that person, who got the toys by mistake, has yet to either send me back the package, or forward it on to the correct address. She told me on the 29th her husband would take it to the post office and forward it so I supplied her the correct address. It takes a couple days before I get responses from her, which is ok. I got an email back from her over the weekend that I never sent her the correct address. Then a minute later got another one that she had found the address and would mail that day. I said thank you very much, please advise when you ship it because the woman who should have gotten it is getting concerned that she'll never get her items. No response. I have emailed the poor woman on the short end here and told her I would be happy to refund her money if she wants, and if the package does come, I will trust her to pay again. (I do think she would) It's now been another 5 days and no package. I've tried calling the lady twice on the phone. She has a website and sells easter items. Ebay can't help because initially I mailed it wrong. Is there anything else I can do? I also mailed the lady who hasn't received her Japan toys, another toy, free of charge as an apology. I was also going to do the same for the lady who hasn't done the mailing. So she now has both items, the one she paid for and the one she didn't. I' bummed. Megan

Navajo (?) verification and an interesting bead necklace

I got this pendant today the back is marked P SANCHEZ STERLING. This silversmith is not in my Hallmarks of the Soutwest book, and I could not find him on 925-1000. After googling, I found others that have him as a Navajo Silversmith, Phillip Sanchez. can anybody verify this as correct? Also, any idea on dates? Second are some vanilla colored beads. They are definitely not plastic, and seem too heavy to be glass. The clasp is marked Sterling. They are opaque, translucent, and clear pearlized on each bead. I hope my photos have captured that. Outside photos were impossible, they glow too much. Any ideas on what material they could be? I thought maybe a shell, but they seem to heavy for that. Maybe a natural stone? THANK YOU! Nancy When life throws you worms, go fishing!

Are there any ways to get buyers to see listings? Do you all do emails?

Hi - I wondered if anyone has any tips or tricks for getting more viewers. Has anyone ever done a targeted email campaign? Just asking. If you see someone's name and you think they'd like what you have, have you ever sent them an email? I have such a variety of things I list that I'm not known for any one thing. I don't have a store and I don't have a website. Like people who buy say fancy buttons, I'm sure they have their favorites saved and those people sell hundreds of buttons. I can't compete on my small level. So I was just wondering if I'm missing out because I maybe don't know enough about driving sales. (and yes, I have read what ebay's written on the subject but it's not very helpful) Thanks!

Newbie needs held with old black

Would not have thought much about this vintage plastic black chain but I bought a small box of antique lacemaking items – some jewelry was in the box, too. Other items dated from approx 1900 to 1930's. Hi. I just recently decided to sell on ebay and so bought my first Simichrome in order to verify bakelite pieces. I read on line that Simichrome was the best test so I ordered a tube. I have never tested for bakelite before and I am a bit confused. I got the positive yellow on my butterscotch and red pieces, but I am confused when it comes to black. I read it does not always show a positive on black or pieces that are lacquered. Plus, how "yellow," does the test have to be? Could you take a look at this link chain. I actually would not have thought much about it except it was in a box lot I recently purchased. Other items in the box were antique lace making, sewing and jewelry items. The other items dated from approx 1900 to 1930s. Since it was in that box lot, I thought it might be special. Any idea what it is or what it is made of? Simichrome just returns a "dirty" cotton swab. The links are very different than the bakelite link chains I see listed on ebay. Pieces are diamond or triangular shaped with oval and round links in between. It is broken. The long piece is 11 inches. The "diamond" shaped segments are 2 sizes. The largest is 1 ¼ inches long, 5/8th inches wides and ¼ inch think. Have you ever seen anything like this? Is it something special?

Help Needed w/ Carved Kissing Bunnies Clamper Bracelet

Can anyone help me with some sort of id for this bracelet? I believe it is bakelite but I have not tested it as of yet. It sounds like bakelite though. It's 2 rabbits kissing. The hinge is bright untarnished gold color but it is marked Silver on the inside. Could this be silver covered in real gold? Or, was there ever a jewelry company named Silver? Any guess at a maker? I'm not sure if you can see in my pictures but, if you look closely, you can see a swirl or pattern in the white. I do apologize since I didn't think of getting a picture of the side since I didn't notice the full extent of the pattern until after taking the pictures. But, when looking through a loupe at it, the pattern appears to be a snake skin pattern and not just a swirl or random swirl pattern. Do many bakelite pieces have a snake skin type pattern in them? Could it possibly be French, or do you think it was made here, or elsewhere? Any guess at age? It seems to be made with very good quality. Is it, or is it just me? It has a wonderful smooth feel to it. Thanks in advance for any help, comments, or suggestions you can give me with it.
