I just had to write on this topic! I've collected records since the early 1970's.Albums, 45's, 78's all types of music from 1920's jazz to Rock 'n' Roll and beyond.Having delt with different "pressings" and re-issues, some of the most gemon records I've seen advertised as "rare" on okay and one that REALLY gets my goat is '"Elvis sings the wonderful world of christmas".I've seen this album offered up so many times as RARE and most of the copies I've seen are RE-ISSUES!! The original 1971 pressings had the catalog number of LSP-4679.This album was re-issued in 1976 at a budget price with a catalog number of ANL1-1936.These are the most gemon copies to show up as rare on okay. The 1976 copies still had the 1971 copyright at the bottom of the back cover, but if the catalog number is ANL1-1936 it's a re-issue and is NOT rare!! In fact it's as gemon as dirt! Other Elvis Presley albums I've seen listed as Rare but are not include : "MOODY BLUE" (blue vinyl copies are a dime a dozen!)
Any Elvis album with a catalog number of AYL is a 1980's re-issue and only worth about $5.00 IF it's as new as the day it was bought. The 1975 RCA "Elvis-Pure gold" album is NOT rare.I could list at least 50 albums that get listed as rare by Elvis Presley and are NOT! If anyone is interested in the other ones that are gemon but are usually listed as rare, let me know and I'll list them for you.And don't get me started on The Beatles!! I've got almost everything by them on vinyl and CD and not everything they put out is rare.I think the word rare is over used.Do a little research before you list a record as rare. You just may be surprised how rare it is not!
To anyone who has an "Elvis sings the wonderful world of christmas" album, I hope this guide was a help and I look forward to your input.
