H-D ignition module up-grade for beginners

One of the easiest up-grades to your H-D ignition for beginners to tackle is to replace the frame mounted module assy. There are several choices available on the market but the two most gemon for softails are either the screamin eagle or the crane HI-4E module. If you go with the screamin eagle, try to get the racing version which has selectable advance curves set by switches and not the other versions which mearly change the rpm. redline. The crane module is more cost up-front but gives more options to the user. You get stock or racing curve set-up with 10 settings in each. The rpm. can be set at a wider range. It has single or multi-spark capability but the best feature is that you can run either dual or single fire depending on the coil you go with. You dont need to go into the nose cone and change anything or retime if bike wwas running fine. Just un-plug old module, install new, set values you want and fire up and go. If later you want to change coil, get single fire and reset module, its that simple. This change wont blow your socks off right out of the box but it will make for smoother starts and will help with that mid-range hesitation in the throttle. The single fire option will boost your spark some too. Look around on okay for the best bargains where you can find a good deal with patience. By the way, on softails the module is located under the seat. Make sure you get right model in either version as some years have 7 pin and later years used 8 pin connectors. Hope this helps ya.
