In the past several months I have purchaseda few Vintage Barbie dolls. Some have been very grimey! A few I wondered what I got myself into!!
BUT....
I have found the best way to clean the bodies is with a Mr. Clean eraser. The plain kind of eraser, NOT the ones with the scrubber side and NOT the kind with soap added. And I NEVER use it on the face or makeup..I use water only on the face. I ONLY use this the TRUE VINTAGE, which to me is the STRAIGT LEGS!
These cleaning pads are amazing! I use just a dab of Dawn dishwashing soap.
And also I want to remind you that a doll purchased with dry hair unruly hair can usually be saved. Wash hair in a moisturizing shampoo, I like Pantine and use a good conditioner on the hair. Some dolls with extremely dry hair may need more than one treatment.
Most hair will take a set too. Just be sure and wet it good, set it with straw or a pencil rolled around the hair securing with hair pins. A very light, and I mean VERY light spritz of hair spray will help hold the set. Careful not to spray the face, I put tissue paper on the face. Hair spray will leave a shiney appearance to the face that you don't want! Leave the hair alone until it dries, usually 24 to 48 hours. This works great on the VINTAGE MIDGE or FRANCIE!!!! I done this to both of mine and they look like new girls!!!
If you don't like the set, it can be washed out and you can try a different style.
Just a few little hints, we are all in this together!
