Coin Fake Detection - Indian Head Cents

The purpose of this guide is to help you recognize one EASY way to tell if the Indian Head Cent you own or are thinking about buying is a counterfeit. This IHC Guide #1. See my IHC Guide #2 .The Chinese are cranking out counterfeit coins by the millions. Indian head cents are just one of many types of coins being counterfeited. The counterfeiters, however, are not always aware of certain design differences of coins from different years, and make their fake coin dies improperly. Fortunately, this helps you be able to visibly detect the fake coin and avoid its purchase.Indian Head cents were minted from 1859 to 1909. The obverse (or front) of the coin had two major styles or types. The difference between the two types is not immediately obvious until you know what to look for. Type 1 - the last feather on the Indian's headdress points between the I and the C of AMERICA. Type 2 - the last feather on the Indian's headdress points between the C
and the A of AMERICA.
Type 1 was ONLY used on coins minted from 1859 to 1886. Type 2 was ONLY used on coins minted from 1886 to 1900. Note that 1886 was the ONLY year that both types were used.Date 1859-1885 - Type 1 only.Date 1886 - Both Type 1 and Type 2.Date 1887-1909 - Type 2 only. Therefore, if you find a 1877 Indian Head Cent for sale, and it has the Type 2 obverse, you immediately know it is a counterfeit.By the same method, if you find a 1909-S Indian Head Cent for sale, and it has the Type 1 obverse, you immediately know it is a counterfeit. 1869 WRONG, 1877 WRONG, 1905 WRONG. Easy to detect.WARNING: Just because the coin has the correct type of obverse does not automatically mean the coin is genuine. Advice: Buy from reputable sellers and dealers.I welgee gements as to improving this guide. Also, see my similar guide for U.S. Trade Dollars and IHC Guide#2 . If you found
