STIHL KombiSystem Tool Is The BEST!

What kind of weed trimmer should you buy for YOUR yard? I was faced with that same question two years agoand after a lengthy search Idecided to purchase a multi-function tool.I settled on theSTIHL KombiSystem Tool and have been very happy with its performance and versatility ever since.
STIHL KombiSystem Tool

Here's how it works. You essentially purchase a string trimmer that you can detatch from its motor. The motor can then be easily and quickly reattached to other gepatible tools. For example, you can go from trimming the yard, to edging along the sidewalk, to sweeping grass trimmings from the walkway, to trimming the hedges (even the really tall ones) to taking out a patch of tall grass or brush ...all on the same tank of gas.Now THAT's impressive!
Advantages
PORTABILITY: This detachable system is very nice for landlords or owners of multiple properties who may need to travel with their tools. Detached, themotor is less than three feet long, and fits neatly in the trunk of any car, along with whatever attachments you may want to have along. I actually used this with the string trimmer attachment to mow an entire yard for a season because it was so much easier than trying to get the lawn mower over there.
ONE MOTOR: A single motor powers all of the attachments, so you will only need to store and service one motor. You'll have only one spark plug to deal with. You will only have to fill one gas tank. And at the end of the season, you only have to winterize one motor.Likewise atthe start of the season, you will have only one motor to tune up.
EASE OF USE: The KombiSystem tool has a quick release mechanism that allows an attachment to be removed and replaced with a different one in less than ten seconds.

So, if you are edging and decide that the bushes could use a haircut, you could trim them and then return to the edging job just as quickly.
STORAGE: With no motor attached, the individual tools will hang neatly on the wall in the garage or tool shed. The motor is small enough to fit just about anywhere.
GASOLINE POWERED: You will not have to worry about slicing through a power cord, or otherwise getting tangled in it or limited by it.This system gees with no strings attached.
Available Attachments
At last check, the following attachments were available for the unit: a bristle brush, an adjustable angle hedge trimmer, an adjustable power scythe, a straight hedge trimmer, a string trimmer, a grass blade,a straight or curved lawn edger, a pruner, a cultivator, a power sweeper and a shaft extension for those hard to reach places.
I own thestraight hedge trimmer, which I have used to easily trim hedges in excess of 8 feet tall. I even do them for the neighbors on occasion because my trimmer is so easy to use.In addition, the string trimmer is handy forthe edges of the lawn and uneven patches. I also used the grass blade to mow downthick brush on a steep slope in front of the house. The unit is powerful enough to do the entire lawn, and I have done this on occasion with dramatic results.

Drawbacks
TEAMING: If you usually team up to do yard work with another person, then having a single motor might not be ideal for you. However if one person mows, the other can do ALL the trimming, edging, and landscaping.
COST: Outside of purchasing the motor along with the attachment of your choice, the remaining attachments must be purchased separately. While this initially seems rather costly, long term maintenance costs are actually lower.
WEIGHT: I cannot easily start the motor with the string trimmer attached unless it is on the ground. Likewise, holding the unit over my head for extended periods for hedge trimming, or pruning can be quite tiring. It is a bit on the heavy side, but I think it's worth its weight.
SINGLE POINT OF FAILURE: If your motor dies, you're out of business. That is a definite drawback, especially if you rely on this motor to power several different tools.
LUBRICANTS: There are different lubricants for the various attachments, but two kinds should be enough to cover you in most cases.Theselubricants must be purchased separately.
NO BLOWER ATTACHMENT: I have no idea why there isn't a leaf blower attachment for this tool, and I have convinced myself that there was surely one designed for this system at one time. However, I have not been able to find one.
